Man, what a tense week of gaming. I spent a handful of hours sneaking around a dark, desolate space station trying to figure out what the hell was happening, and how to get the hell out of there. Yep, it's another Alien game!
Despite the misfires of Alien: Colonial Marines, I still can't say no to an Alien video game. It's easy to say that Isolation is already off to a much better first step than Colonial Marines, even if that first step included all hell breaking loose.
Isolation is certainly a different type of Aliens game. At least so far. Not a single pulse rifle or grenade launcher has been on Sevastopol Station - the local I am currently exploring. In fact, the only weapons I've been able to salvage probably couldn't put a dent in the alien's exoskeleton. Instead of guns blazing, the best tactics so far in Isolation are to keep your head down, stay quiet, and stay out of sight.
So far, the foes I've been encountering have been of the non-alien variety which is fine by me. I'm stressed out enough just knowing that there are xenomorphs on-board the same station I am exploring - I don't need to constantly be bumping into them.
There is much more than some aliens at foot here in Isolation. I'm gleaming bits and pieces of info from computer terminals and audio logs that point to something just as sinister as the aliens themselves.
Gameplay wise, I've been spending the bulk of my time hiding in closets, and sneaking through vents with the series iconic motion tracker. I'm also getting familiar with the game's crafting system and environmental distractions. Both systems I fear I am going to have to master if I hope to make it off the space station alive.
It's stressfull, and slow moving - but I'm having a good time with it so far. Eager to see where the story takes things... though not eager to face down the Alien menace lurking in the shadows.
With that said, anybody play anything fun? I need to hear about rainbows and unicorns to shake off the Isolation dread.
