Well, what do you know - I'm playing games again! Still not back at our house, but I've managed to smuggle my PS3 and Xbox One along with me. It was great both systems up again, even if the Xbox One required a week's worth of updating.
Lets start with the PS3. I originally brought the console over to my mother-in-laws so that the kiddo could watch Hulu & Netflix. After he went to bed, I thought I'd fire up the system to see what games were lurking on the system's hard drive. That's where I found Uncharted 3, in all it's unfinished glory.
I gave up on Uncharted 3 just shy of a year ago, due to the game's frustratingly clunky combat. Since coming back to the game, I haven't had much to complain about though. Perhaps it's because I've been dealing more with puzzles and platforming than gunplay. That said, I've been enjoying immensely.
I'ts been a long time since I've woken up early to play a game before going to work. I've also been staying up way past my bedtime to get some game time in. I blame it on the fantastic action sequences and terrific characters that you find in an Uncharted game.
That said, I've managed to play Uncharted 3 through to the end, and happily crossed this game off my backlog. I suppose eventually I'm going to have to pick up a PS4 in order to tackle Uncharted 4. See you then Drake!
After finishing up Uncharted 3, I was inspired to finish even more games, so I fired up Halo 2 via the Halo: Master Chief Collection. I was pretty far along on this ride before it lost my attention, so I though it would only take a day or two to wrap up Master Chief's sophomore outing. I was sorely mistaken
Though I'm playing on Heroic, I'm finding the game maddening in certain spots. The constant respawning and dying over and over is taxing my interest in this game. To the point that I am now just trying to spring through the levels as fast as I can to finish things up.
I am enjoying this more than the first time I played Halo 2, when it was originally release... at least I was until the last few frustrating levels. That said, the story is kind bonkers and it still fails to grab me like the original Halo did way back when.
Ahhh, Gears... The main reason for picking my Xbox One up from home was to check out the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Beta. It's been a mixed bag, to sat the least, but that seems to the case when it comes to Gears of War multiplayer.
Between getting reacquainted with the controls & mechanics to being clearly out matched skill-wise, my first few games were a bit of a slaughter. I kept at it though, coming back each night for a game or two and things slowly are starting to come together.
+Billy Guinigundo, I apparently try to 'lone wolf' Gears too much, and I'm not cut out for it. I'm better off following my team around and providing cover fire. Playing smarter helped my score rise, but there was still plenty of WTF moments. I guess it wouldn't be gears with out it, huh? I also miss playing Execution and Warzone modes.
I've got this game pre-ordered though, and I'll be looking forward to playing it again in August. The main draw is revisiting the campaign, but I'm sure you'll find me in multiplayer as well. For as long as my blood pressure can take it at least.
So, that's what I've been playing lately.
Anybody else get in on the action?
